July Message from Nancy Berdasco, Your Great Lakes LUT Representative
On June 28, 2026, the Great Lakes Region held its regular quarterly meeting for LUTs in the region. This meeting focused on discussing the future vision and role of Licensed Unity Teachers (LUTs) within the evolving Unity organization. The group of GLUR LUTs discussed challenges with the LUT program including low enrollment in recent cohorts, changes in program structure, and concerns about the quality of education provided by Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute (UWSI). Participants shared their perspectives on how LUTs function in their communities, with many describing LUTs as supporting ministers in teaching classes, providing pastoral care, and being involved in practical spiritual activities like healing circles and book studies. The discussion revealed that LUTs see their role as a calling similar to ministers, though distinct from ministerial duties, and emphasized the need for clearer program pathways and better marketing to attract new candidates. Participants also discussed the importance of maintaining quality education standards and the need for UWSI to provide more clarity about the LUT credentialing process and future direction of the program.
